ABOUT THE INSTALLATION
In 2019, RxART Canada worked with artist Julia Dault on a project that transformed the Dental and Orthodontic Clinics at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto. Dault approached the commission in a manner similar to her painting practice: first, she created a colourful base underpainting, then she added layers, including white motifs such as lines and circles, on top. The resulting large-scale, brightly coloured patterns were transposed onto wall coverings and installed throughout the patient exam and waiting rooms. With the addition of this new artwork, the clinics’ previously ordinary spaces were brightened and uplifted, creating unique and positive atmospheres within healthcare settings.
This project was made possible by the generous support of Spin Master Ltd.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Julia Dault (b. 1977, Toronto, ON) is best known for her abstract paintings and Formica and Plexiglass sculptures. Dault’s recent pieces highlight the beauty and complexity of overlooked systems beneath surfaces, emphasizing layering, patterns, and the interplay of colour and form. By using brushes, sponges, combs, and other unconventional tools to apply and remove paint, she creates new details and optical illusions.
Solo exhibitions have been held at 3:e Våningen, Gothenburg, Sweden; the Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver, BC; and The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, Toronto, ON. Her work has also been included in group exhibitions at institutions such as the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, Rotterdam, Netherlands; the Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw, Poland; the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Houston, TX; and the Pérez Art Museum, Miami, FL.
