ABOUT THE INSTALLATION

ABOUT THE INSTALLATION

RxART Canada partnered with Casey House to install a series of colourful wall murals by artist Ooloosie Saila in several private inpatient rooms. This project poetically fuses art, healing, and cultural visibility, as Saila’s brightly coloured Arctic landscapes add movement, light, and life to the clinic, helping to reduce stress and support patient well-being. Rooted in Inuit traditions yet wholly contemporary, her imagery fosters connection to land, resilience, and identity, values that resonate with Casey House’s mission of providing dignity and holistic care for people living with HIV/AIDS. By integrating Inuit art into the hospital, Casey House not only transformed its walls into spaces of reflection but also amplified Indigenous voices in a setting where compassionate, inclusive care is paramount.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Ooloosie Saila (b. 1991) is an emerging Inuit artist from Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Nunavut. Inspired by early visits to the home of renowned artist Kenojuak Ashevak and influenced by her grandfather, sculptor and graphic artist Pauta Saila, she began drawing at a young age and joined the Kinngait Studios in 2015.

Saila is known for her vibrant use of colour, intricate patterns, and imaginative depictions of northern landscapes and wildlife. Her work was first featured in the 2017 Dorset Fine Arts Annual Print Collection and has since been exhibited nationally and internationally. Her art is held in major collections, including the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal and Capital One in Toronto.
